ELECTION DAY...the movie

This is the place to go for specific movie news updates and such.

April 26, 2003: New pictures have been added from on location of the ELECTION DAY shoot and the 2002 Windsong Film Festival as well as other film projects.

October 15, 2002: September 27, 2002 ELECTION DAY was submitted to the Sundance Film Festival which will take place January 2003. The film was also submitted to the Brooklyn International Film Festival which will take place April - May 2003.

September 1, 2002: In preparation for entering the Sundance Film Festival, Kyle Lowden said that there is some last minute, improvement editing that is going to need to happen. "There are a few glitches that we've never completely worked out yet. Those things will not treat us kindly at Sundance...every tiny mistake counts." So, what exactly will this new editing help/improve? "Basically, what I'm going to do is re-insert the soundtrack on the movie. There were a few editing glitches that jumped in there when we were producing it for the premiere. So those glitches will be fixed and hopefully it will do well."

August 31, 2002: Kyle Lowden and Nick Nobel tell me that along with a few other film festivals, the biggest news regarding ELECTION DAY is that they plan on entering it into the 2003 Sundance Film Festival.

May 13, 2002: The Windsong International Film Festival begins tonight! Kyle Lowden has said that he will be there almost every night from May 13th - May 19th promoting the three films that he appeared in and composed for. He will be availible for a question and answer session after each showing.

April 15, 2002: I spoke with Kyle Lowden this morning and he told me that ELECTION DAY has won the 2002 Windsong International Film Festival. Their first feature-length comedy won first place and is, what festival director Michael Floyd calls "...a monumental undertaking...". On May 18, 2002 there will be a ceremony presenting the Brothers with their award, other prizes, as well as the first glimpse of the film for the public.

March 21, 2002: Technical difficulties have arisen with the completion of the Windsong Film Festival version of ELECTION DAY. It is in the Brothers eyes an incomplete version but we will see how it does. Now the Brothers will start editing the director's cut version which will include the originally deleted scenes and bloopers. Stay tuned!

March 15, 2002: Election Day is entering the final stages of production. FINALLY!!!!! Stay tuned for more exciting updates.

February 27, 2002: Pictures will be uploaded soon that were taken during the McBride Brothers flying experience with Dean Cutshall and Mercury Air. Other news, production of ELECTION DAY was halted after Kyle Lowden became ill and Nick Nobel had a family emergency in St. Louis, MO. It will recommence in the next few days as there are just over ten more shots that need to be filmed.

February 21, 2002: More and more filming continues as the end of filming approaches. The Brothers are hoping to have it done earlier than the February 26 date they had set (granted its still almost a month after the original date given of February 1, 2002). Apparently, there are a few more outside people scheduled to be filming with the Brothers this coming weekend. We will have a full cast and crew list coming as soon as the entire production is finished.

February 18, 2002: I just received an email from the Brothers that reported on their filming this last weekend. They reported that they are actually considering making a documentary on the making of the documentary ELECTION DAY. This came about for several reasons. They filmed on an airplane Sunday morning and afternoon and actually were allowed to fly the plane. They have lots of in flight footage, including each one in control of the airplane. They would definately like to thank "Dean, Val, and all the staff at Mercury Air for being so nice and helpful with the filming of the scenes,". So far, just for the record, the brothers have filmed in three states (Illinois, Indiana, Michigan) and seven cities (Chicago, Il; Columbia City, IN; Detroit, MI; Fort Wayne, IN; Lancing, MI; Roanoke, IN; South Bend, IN). Not bad for a no-budget movie.

February 15, 2002: Filming continued this week and will continue in the weeks to come. Kyle Lowden says the Brothers are hoping to have it done by February 23, 2002. "Its starting to get into crunch time. We need to finish filming so the editing and post-production can be done. Its going to take a lot of work to get this movie out by March 20, 2002." Meanwhile they 'keep on trucking'.

February 11, 2002: The days of filming are slowly wrapping up and the film is almost completely shot. The Brothers do plan on being finished filming by February 23, 2002. Post production will begin immediately after filming wraps up. The release date of the film may be pushed back a little as one of the film festivals the Brothers are entering wants to show it first. They are in negotiations right now to sort it all out.

February 8, 2002: Movie news is slow right now but here are a few updates that we were just given. The Brothers have about 31 more scenes to shoot. They plan on filming little this weekend because Nick Nobel flew out in California earlier this morning to work on some of the business issues with the film. The other exciting news is that the Brothers finally confirmed the filming in an airplane of all places. For about three months, the Brothers have been trying to find an airline that would allow filming on it. This task was made exceedingly difficult by the events of September 11th. So don't think that Hoosiers weren't effected by the tragedy. Kyle Lowden told me, "We confirmed late yesterday that we would be filming on an airplane. The airline is Mercury Air and they have generously offered their time and one of their planes for us to film in. Nick (Nobel) is out in California at the moment working on some business opportunities and obligations. We have a little over thirty shots left and hopefully we can be finished by February 22."

February 4, 2002: The McBride Brothers would like to thank the extras that did show up for filming this last Saturday. A lot was accomplished and your presence was greatly appreciated.

January 29, 2002: Filming problems have once again hit the set of ELECTION DAY. Nathan Smith became ill and the lack of people turning out for crowd scenes are what Jon Hurley claims the problems are. "It was a nice day, we tried to get people there including some illegal activity Kyle (Lowden) perpetrated... and lets just say we were more than disappointed by the turn out." They were not able to film the scenes this past weekend and will try to do it this weekend. So, if you want to be an extra (speaking roles optional) meet at Canterbury High School on Sunday (specific times to be given later).

January 22, 2002: News from the set of ELECTION DAY: Jon Harris has been fired from the movie ELECTION DAY. Kyle Lowden said, "The firing happened Sunday after a long battle of personal and creative differences." Nick Nobel said, "That whole bit was very complicated because we hadn't been shooting it chronologically so Harris was all over the movie: beginning and end. However, we were able to quickly solve the problem in a funny and usual idiotic McBride fashion." No other news is availible at this time.

January 14, 2002: Filming will resume this week for ELECTION DAY. After a two-week hiatus, the Brothers are back to filming. They will film this week and weekend and continue all the way into February.

January 10, 2002: For the next week or so, production on ELECTOIN DAY has been halted. This is due to a variety of reasons. First, the Brothers had not rehearsed the show for a few weeks and gave themselves time to work out the new material and restructure the show. Also, they are trying to work out more locations and other movie related business (i.e. the soundtrack). Filming is slated to begin again next Friday, even with the East Noble show on Jan. 19, 2002.

January 7, 2002: After a few weeks of filming, the Brothers say they have around 20% of the filming done. They do say however that in the future they will be needing extras of both sexes. Stay tuned for more information on that as it comes in. Apparently Grant Boyd was infact flown in to film over the last two weeks and Jon Harris (referred to as Oth McBride and a friend of the troupe) will be in the movie. Harris will be playing narrator and filmmaker Roland McBride.

December 22, 2001: Filming begins today on the first McBride Brother feature film. Also, Kyle Lowden has hinted that relocated member Grant Boyd may be appearing in the film in a role that will fill you with life.
